In 1952 Romania, two Roman Catholic nuns living at the Saint Cartha's monastery are attacked by an unseen force when they enter a tunnel to retrieve an ancient Christian relic. The surviving nun, Sister Victoria, flees from the attacker, a demon appearing as a nun, and hangs herself. Her body is discovered by Frenchie, a villager who transports supplies to the nuns. The Vatican learns of the incident and summons Father Burke to Rome, where they ask him to travel with Sister Irene, a nun in her novitiate, to Romania in order to investigate the situation. While Sr. Irene is teaching children the relationship between religion and science in a school, her Mother Superior interrupts her and informs her that Burke has arrived in order to request Irene's accompaniment in his trip to Romania. The pair travel to Romania and meet with Frenchie, who leads them to the abbey. They discover Victoria's body and remove a key from her corpse. Inside, they encounter the Abbess, who informs them that the nuns observe a period of silence during the night and offers them lodging at the attached convent if they wish to return the next day. Frenchie is attacked by a demon as he returns to the village, but escapes. Burke tells Irene that a boy he exorcised, Daniel, was fatally injured during the exorcism, and Burke has carried the burden of the boy's death with him ever since. Irene reveals that as a girl, she had visions particularly of a nun, causing the Church to take an interest in her. Burke is rescued by Irene after being buried alive in the graveyard by the demonic entity..

In Upper Paleolithic Europe, 20,000 years in the past, a small tribe of hunter-gatherers prepares for an expedition to hunt for the coming winter's food. Tau, its chief, trains his adolescent son Keda, accepting him and another boy to join the hunting party. His wife Rho worries that Keda is not ready, but Tau believes he is and the hunters set out. Tau tests Keda by having him kill a boar they've caught, but Keda balks. One night, the party's fire draws the attention of a Machairodus saber-toothed cat, which lunges through their circle, snatching Keda's friend. Hearing the fatal struggle in the darkness, the tribe gives him up for dead. The member is given a memorial service in the form of placing rocks to symbolize the passing of one's spirit to the afterlife..

Following a cataclysmic conflict known as the Sixty Minute War, the remnants of humanity regroup and form mobile "predator" cities. Under a philosophy known as "Municipal Darwinism", larger cities hunt and absorb smaller settlements in the "Great Hunting Ground", which includes Great Britain and Continental Europe. In opposition, settlements of the "Anti-Traction League" have developed an alternative civilization consisting of "static settlements" (traditional, non-mobile cities) in Asia led by Shan Guo (formerly China), protected by the "Shield Wall". Relics of modern technology such as toasters, computers, and iPhone's are valued as "Old-Tech." The city of London captures a small mining town called Salzhaken, absorbing its population and resources, under orders of Lord Mayor Magnus Crome. A masked woman among the Salzhakens is Hester Shaw, who seeks to assassinate Thaddeus Valentine, Head of the Guild of Historians. Tom Natsworthy, a teenage Apprentice Historian, is sent to London's "Gut" to collect Old-Tech for London's Museum, accompanied by Valentine's good-nature daughter Katherine. Hester attempts to kill Valentine but Tom intervenes, pursuing Hester to a waste chute. Hester escapes, but not before telling him that Valentine murdered her mother and scarred her face. When Tom informs Valentine of this, he pushes Tom down the chute..

Miles Morales, a teenager who admires Spider-Man, struggles to adjust to his new elite boarding school and live up to the expectations of his parents, Rio Morales and Jefferson Davis, who views Spider-Man as a menace. After developing a crush on his classmate "Gwanda", Miles seeks advice from his uncle Aaron Davis. Aaron encourages Miles to pursue his passion for graffiti and leads him to a subway station where he can draw. While there, Miles is bitten by a radioactive spider and develops spider-like abilities. Unable to contact Aaron, he returns to the station and finds a secret laboratory where Wilson Fisk has built a particle accelerator to access parallel universes and reconnect with alternative versions of his wife and son, who died in a car accident. Spider-Man arrives to disable the accelerator and fights Green Goblin and Prowler. During the melee, Spider-Man meets Miles and senses they are alike but is then gravely wounded when the accelerator malfunctions. Spider-Man gives Miles a USB drive to disable the accelerator and informs him that the machine could destroy the city if turned on again. Shortly afterward, Fisk brutally kills Spider-Man as Miles escapes.

A tense woman, Malorie, sternly informs two young children that they will be going on a dangerous journey. She strictly instructs them to not remove their blindfolds, or else they will die. In a scene from five years earlier, a pregnant Malorie is visited by her older sister Jessica. Before going together to Malorie's pregnancy checkup, they briefly discuss a strange news story regarding mass suicides and chaos in Europe, however Malorie dismisses the news as irrelevant. Later, while leaving the doctor's office, Malorie witnesses a woman bashing her head into a window, and realizes that the strange news story of suicides and panic is now happening only mere feet away from her. As chaos and confusion erupt in the streets around them, Malorie and Jessica attempt to escape to Jessica's home in their car. While they drive, Malorie is distracted by a cell phone, and Jessica briefly sees something that frightens her. She becomes visibly sad, and though Malorie tries to stop her, crashes the car. Injured and horrified, Malorie is unable to stop a visibly affected Jessica from killing herself by stepping in front of a truck. In shock and fear, Malorie runs in the chaotic crowd, trying to escape from something she can neither see nor understand. She falls, and is rescued by Tom, and they escape into a house with other frightened strangers, one of whom's wife kills herself during Malorie's rescue. One of the other survivors, Charlie, theorizes that an otherworldly entity has invaded Earth. They conclude that simply seeing the unknown creatures must cause humans to go insane, become violent, and commit suicide. At the insistence of Tom, they cover all windows in the house..

After being declared "Outlaw" by the occupying English Empire, Robert the Bruce (Chris Pine) raises an army of Scottish fighters in rebellion. Twists and turns all across the Scottish countryside lead this film on an epic, "true to historical events", journey that captures heroism at its core!

An unidentified woman is engaged in a brutal fight with a man in a car and finally dispatches him with a shot to the head. Five years earlier, the same woman, Riley North, is working as a banker in Los Angeles struggling to make ends meet. Her husband Chris owns a failing mechanic shop. They have a ten-year-old daughter, Carly. Chris' friend tries to talk him into robbing Diego Garcia, a powerful drug lord. Chris turns him down, but not before Garcia has already discovered his involvement and ordered his men to make an example of him. Riley and Chris take Carly out for pizza and to a carnival for her birthday since no one showed up to her party. At the carnival, Carly orders peppermint ice cream. As the family walks to the car, Diego's men gun down her husband and daughter in a drive-by shooting. She is wounded, but survives.

Sixteen-year-old Ruby, one of the most powerful young people anyone has encountered, escapes her camp and joins a group of runaway teens seeking safe haven. Soon this newfound family realizes that, in a world in which the adults in power have betrayed them, running is not enough and they must wage a resistance, using their collective power to take back control of their future.

A week after, Steve is informed that Ellen's grave has been desecrated, while Annie thinks she sees an apparition of Ellen in her workshop. At a support group for bereaved, Annie reveals that the rest of her family suffered from mental illness that resulted in their deaths. To attend a party, Peter lies that he is going to a school event, and Annie forces him to take Charlie with him. Unsupervised, Charlie eats cake containing nuts, which she is allergic to, and falls into Anaphylactic shock. As Peter drives her to a hospital, Charlie leans out of the window for air. Peter swerves to avoid a dead animal and Charlie is decapitated by a telephone pole. The family grieves following Charlie's funeral, heightening tensions between Annie and Peter.
